The club head itself is Good. Not as "hot" as the 09 TM Burner, but the shaft makes up for it. I'm not a fan of the factory shafts that TM puts on their drivers (too long and too high of a ball flight). I'm not in to changing the loft and lie angles much with the MWT, but it's there if I need to. Overall, I'm very happy with this R9 460 Driver.
I hit a TaylorMade R9 460 Driver for a test round and hit drives at my home course that were personal bests. I am a 14 handicap and play weekly. My old R7 was good but the R9 460 Driver is another level. Hits farther with control and is lighter to the hands! Love it!
The feel of the TaylorMade R9 460 Driver when hitting the ball, too me, is just right. The stock Fujikura shaft works really well.
The R9 460 is a very good driver, as most new drivers are. One piont of info, with adjustable shafted clubs…as you close the face ,you are INCREASING the effective loft.
The R9 460 Driver is a little longer front to back than the R9 and is verging on being triangular shape but stop just short and still looks pretty good. Both r9 driver and r9 460 driver are good!
This is a pretty good club for players that can't get the ball in the air. It just wasn't good for my swing. I would hit the ball extremely high and if you are in windy conditions; it will be a struggle to get a consistent outcome. It is an okay club other then the fact that the ball goes straight up in the air. I play a lot of courses in the area of Lake Michigan so I have to be careful how high I hit it due to the wind. I sold the R9 460 and bought a 909D3 8.5* and it is easy to hit the ball high if needed and is just as easy to keep the ball down in the wind.
The TaylorMade R9 460 Driver looks strikingly similar in pictures that were sent to us to the original R9 Driver. When one arrived at our offices a few weeks back it took putting them side by side to notice a difference for us. Compared to the R9 driver, the R9 460 driver has a larger head, deeper clubface, and lower and deeper-back center of gravity (CG), qualities that deliver a higher MOI for greater forgiveness and a higher spin-rate, helping low-spin players keep the ball in the air longer for increased carry and distance. Another major difference is the lack of Movable Weight Technology (MWT) that was found in the original driver. It gives players more ability to customize the ball flight and my initial reaction was that I was going to miss this quite a bit.
First of all, this R9 460 TP only has 40yds of adjustability. no weights. it's all done by taking the shaft out and reinserting in a different position which are marked. The head is 460cc, the face is deep, not that wide, the back is huge and shaped like a triangle. It has a good look, not distracting at all. The shaft is red metallic and the top near the grip is white. It's easy to adjust by removing and reinstalling the shaft. Now for the review. I left it in neutral and tried a few hits.
I am a green hand, I am going to buy a half set first, and then if using good, I will consider to buy the rest half. I do not like to waste money.
Great club, the stiff shaft is stiffer than my R7 so I've changed to a regular which is fine. Smaller head easier to manage and reasonably forgiving. Adjustable shaft seems to do the job.
